ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES OF THREADED TEE FITTINGS

ADVANTAGES:-

  • Leakage integrity is good in threaded pipe fittings for low pressure piping systems.
  • Installation of threaded pipe fittings are easy and no special skills is required.
  • Threaded pipe fittings can be fitted using hands since less force is required for joining.
  • Threaded pipe fittings can be dismantled for maintenance and reused.
  • Threaded pipe fittings are cheaper to produce, much easily available and come in a large variety of sizes, shapes, combinations and materials.

DISADVANTAGES:-

  • Threaded fittings are vulnerable to fatigue damages and, therefore, should not be used in the transportation of hazardous materials.
  • Rapid temperature and pressure change can lead to leakage.
  • Threads can be prone to port expansion or cracking from over tightening.
  • Threaded pipe fittings can cause difficulty while orienting other fittings for joining.
  • Lubricants used while sealing threaded pipe joints can contaminate the piping system.
  • Threaded pipe fittings are not suitable for the highest pressures.
  • ASME B31.3 does not recommends using threaded pipe joints in corrosive and erosive environments or where cyclic loading may occur.
